The size printed on a filter is a useful starting point, but check the product details before you buy. A nominal size is the labeled size; the actual measurements may be different. Compare length, width, and thickness with the replacement product’s specifications. Filters with similar face dimensions are not automatically interchangeable. Confirm the required thickness and any model or cabinet compatibility listed by the manufacturer. The filter should fit properly without being bent or forced into place. Choose filtration performance according to your equipment’s requirements. A higher MERV rating is not a reason to ignore system compatibility; ask an HVAC professional if you are considering a different rating.
